For the longest of times, chickens have been hunting and pecking the farm for protein-filled insects. Fast forward a few years, poultry farmers now raise their chickens on larger scales, fed with commercial chicken feeds that provide protein derived from soybeans or fish instead of natural protein sources.

Little do we know that Malaysia imports all its corn and soybean meal in US dollars. To make things worse, these 2 key ingredients are incredibly volatile commodities. One case of a bad weather or disaster is all it takes to send the prices of these meals skyrocketing.

Now, when we consider that Malaysia is a country that’s rich in plantation and natural resources (we farm rice, palm, fruits, rubber, etc), these crazy expensive costs for raising our chickens makes absolutely no sense.

Combined with the fact that our Malaysian Ringgit is depreciating against the US dollar, we need an urgent solution to protect our own country’s farmers and the end consumers who have been paying increasingly expensive prices for poultry.

Our Grubs Prove to Be an Immediate, Long-Term Solution That Improves Everything

Everything about poultry farming can change with the help of the Black Soldier Fly larvae as a more environmental friendly replacement source of protein in commercial protein feed.

Not only can these grubs live off organic wastes and require little water to thrive, they are disease-free and their wastes can be used as organic fertilizers.

These clean and nutritious larvae have proven to boost chickens’ immune systems with their natural amino acid compositions, all while helping farmers keep their chickens healthy without needing to burn a hole in their wallets for purchasing artificial growth boosters and antibiotics.

Just last year, a research paper has published evidence of broiler chickens’ drastically increased survival rates during fowl typhoid disease. You can read the full report here.

In another study conducted by the Poultry Research Unit of the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization, they’ve found that replacing commercial protein poultry feed with the Black Soldier Fly larvae reduces the cost of feed, improved the cost-benefit ratio by 16 percent, and brought the return of investment up by 25 percent.

It’s time to make the switch!

With the incorporation of the Black Soldier Fly larvae into feed, we believe it will be able to help farmers save a significant amount on their feeds, bring our society towards a lower environmental costs of poultry production, and maybe one day, be a part of our daily meals as a source of protein and nutrition.

But there are many, many, many layers for us to go through in order to educate our local farmers. After all, it is a bit challenging to convince farmers to change the way they’ve been feeding their fowls for the past 10 years.
